Welcome to the new Ghost editor - affectionately known as Koenig.

Koenig is a brand new writing experience within Ghost, and follows more of a rich writing experience which you've come to expect from the best publishing platforms. Don't worry though! You can still use Markdown too, if that's what you prefer.

Because there are some changes to how Ghost outputs content using its new editor, we dropped this draft post into your latest update to tell you a bit about it – and simultaneously give you a chance to preview how well your theme handles these changes. So after reading this post you should both understand how everything works, and also be able to see if there are any changes you need to make to your theme in order to upgrade to Ghost 2.0.

What's new

The new editor is designed to allow you have a more rich editing experience, so it's no longer limited to just text and formatting options – but it can also handle rich media objects, called cards. You can insert a card either by clicking on the
+
button on a new line, or typing
/
on a new line to search for a particular card.

Here's one now:

Just shipped 👉 Ghost 2.0! 🚢

✍️ Brand new editor
🌍 Multi-language sites
🏗 Custom URL structures
🏠 Custom homepages
📢 much more!

All the details: https://t.co/aY3ujGfUio 🎁
— Ghost (@TryGhost) August 21, 2018

Cards are rich objects which contain content which is more than just text. To start with there are cards for things like images, markdown, html and embeds — but over time we'll introduce more cards and integrations, as well as allowing you to create your own!

Some examples of possible future cards

A chart card to display dynamic data visualisations

A recipe card to show a pre-formatted list of ingredients and instructions

A Mailchimp card to capture new subscribers with a web form

A recommended reading card to display a dynamic suggested story based on the current user's reading history

For now, though, we're just getting started with the basics.

New ways to work with images

Perhaps the most notable change to how you're used to interacting with Ghost is in the images. In Koenig, they're both more powerful and easier to work with in the editor itself - and in the theme, they're output slightly differently with different size options.

For instance, here's your plain ol' regular image:

A regular size image

But perhaps you've got a striking panorama that you really want to stand out as your readers scroll down the page. In that case, you could use the new full-bleed image size which stretches right out to the edges of the screen:

It's wide

Or maybe you're looking for something in between, which will give you just a little more size to break up the vertical rhythm of the post without dominating the entire screen. If that's the case, you might like the breakout size:

It's wider, but not widest

Each of these sizes can be selected from within the editor, and each will output a number of HTML classes for the theme to do styling with.

Chances are your theme will need a few small updates to take advantage of the new editor functionality. Some people might also find they need to tweak their theme layout, as the editor canvas previously output a wrapper div around its content – but no longer does. If you rely on that div for styling, you can always add it back again in your theme.

Oh, we have some nice new image captions, too :)

What else?

Well, you can still write Markdown, as mentioned. In fact you'll find the entire previous Ghost editor inside this editor. If you want to use it then just go ahead and add a Markdown card and start writing like nothing changed at all:

Markdown content works just the way it always did, simply and beautifully.

of course you can embed code blocks

.new-editor {
	display: bock;
}

or embed things from external services like YouTube...

and yeah you can do full HTML if you need to, as well!

    <blink>hello world</blink>

So everything works, hopefully, just about how you would expect. It's like the old editor, but faster, cleaner, prettier, and a whole lot more powerful.

What do I do with this information?

Preview this post on your site to see if it causes any issues with your theme. Click on the settings cog in the top right 👉🏼 corner of the editor, then click on 'Preview' next to the 'Post URL' input.

If everything looks good to you then there's nothing you need to do, you're all set! If you spot any issues with your design, or there are some funky display issues, then you might need to make some updates to your theme based on the new editor classes being output.

Head over to the Ghost 2.0 Theme Compatibility forum topic to discuss any changes and get help if needed.

That's it!

We're looking forward to sharing more about the new editor soon

Galleries Full Support:

How to create a retro joystick

Final Image Preview

Before we get started, let's take a look at the image we'll be creating. As always, the layered Photoshop file is available via our Psdtuts+ Plus membership.

Step 1

Let's open a new document using the settings shown below.

Step 2

Now we'll need to have some guides to make sure that everything in our document will be in the right place. And in order to put the guides in the correct place, we'll make some fixed sized selections.

Get the Rectangular Marque Tool, set style to Fixed Size and set Width and Height to 140 pixels. Click on the canvas, then while holding the left mouse button place the selection to the top left corner. Drag one horizontal and one vertical guide and snap them to the edges of the selection.

Drag the selection to the right bottom corner and get two more guides. Because we want our tool to snap to these guides, make sure that View > Snap is active.

Step 3

We can start drawing now. First create a new layer and name it "Upside." Pick 65% gray as your Foreground Color. Get the Rounded Rectangle Tool, set the Radius to 40 pixels, and select Fill Pixels in the tool options. Draw a rounded square as in the below image.

Go to Filter > Noise > Add Noise, then set the Amount to 2%. Also, set Distribution to Uniform and make sure that Monochromatic is checked.

Filling the background with a full-blown image is no longer a useful solution today as the variety of devices and screen resolutions in the market make it difficult to adapt to them all, although it is true that the latest plugins and scripts offer solutions such as automatic image resizing. Patterns are similar to those images that are indefinitely repeated either horizontally or vertically. That makes a lot more sense today where usability is concerned, especially in responsive design. Today we've compiled a number of websites that collect many free patterns available for use on the design of your sites and web applications.
This is also 100% pure vector artwork that features a Viper GTS. The unique perspective of this vector car along with the vectorized spinning wheels, glossy finish and the shiny look all combine to make this a truly impressive piece. Plus the lights are turned on which further adds that special spark to it.

The perspective on this piece is also very unique. Furthermore, the red color used in this artwork makes this piece of vector artwork a heart touching one. The overall car’s finish and detailing are worth noting as well.

Muddin’ anyone? This piece takes us back to the country where big trucks are “the thing”. The details to the undercarriage on this ride is what caught our eye.

The thunder rolled, lightning flashed and the rain hammered into the roof. There's something about a storm that brings a sense of doom. It fitted so perfectly.

When the ITV news flash sign came on the TV screen everyone looked up. When the flash sign was immediately followed by a still of Elvis Presley, a quiet voice breathed, "Oh, my God."

"Reports are coming in that Elvis Presley, the rock and roll singer, died this evening at his home in Memphis, Tennessee."

We all looked at each other in disbelief.

"Elvis is dead!"

It didn't seem quite credible. And yet it wasn't the kind of shock that followed the news of J.F.K. being cut down. There had been so much speculation about Presley's mental and physical health that his death was unpleasantly predictable.

It was almost impossible to know what to think. My first impulse was to pick up the phone and call a couple of people. I tried two numbers, but they were both busy. Obviously other people had reacted the same way. It was the kind of news that demanded to be passed on. Elvis had always been there. For more than two decades he'd maintained a unique position in too many people's lives. Despite all the depressing rumours it scarcely seemed possible that he'd gone, that Elvis Presley was dead at 42.

I guess the only word I can use is numb. Numb, and just very slightly embarrassed at the way I was reacting. It wasn't the ordinary kind of grief that you feel for a personal friend. There was no voice telling me that I'd never see Elvis Presley again. Jesus Christ, I'd never seen him, ever. I didn't even regret that I'd never get the chance to see him. The Elvis Presley I'd have given my right arm to watch was the wild hoodlum in the gold jacket who vanished into the US Army and never returned. I'd mourned his passing many years ago.

Format">
For the ribbon-cutting at the Washington Heights Library this month, the son of a former custodian returned to his old home. He grew up in what used to be the caretaker’s apartment on the third floor. While his father shoveled coal at night to heat the place, he would go downstairs to read about boat building and navigating by the stars. Ronald Clark went on to become the first in his family to graduate from high school and college, and decades later he built himself a boat and navigated by the stars that he had learned about in the library under him.

A few years ago, library officials hired the architect Andrew Berman to revamp the two upper stories of that Andrew Carnegie-era branch on 160th Street. Mr. Berman has now turned the third-floor apartment into a clubhouse for teenagers, and the whole second floor into a double-height palace for young children, with seating nooks and lime-green sofas under towering windows. A snaking, pale-wood bookshelf divides the room into cosseting quadrants, scaling it down for pint-size patrons. Smart, sunny and simple, the redesign feels lofty and homey at the same time, rebooting Carnegie’s original grand-populist vision for the branches.

In ways big and small, architects like Mr. Berman have changed New York City this year. Projects like the library branch made it a little more livable and humane.

What follows is nothing nearly as disciplined or logical as a list of 2016’s architectural highs and lows in town. It’s more a kind of belated thank you note for a few projects that kept faith with architecture’s ideals and the city’s better self.

It is a paradisematic country, in which roasted parts of sentences fly into your mouth. Even the all-powerful Pointing has no control about the blind texts it is an almost unorthographic life One day however a small line of blind text by the name of Lorem Ipsum decided to leave for the far World of Grammar.
The Big Oxmox advised her not to do so, because there were thousands of bad Commas, wild Question Marks and devious Semikoli, but the Little Blind Text didn’t listen.

She packed her seven versalia, put her initial into the belt and made herself on the way. When she reached the first hills of the Italic Mountains, she had a last view back on the skyline of her hometown Bookmarksgrove, the headline of Alphabet Village and the subline of her own road, the Line Lane. Pityful a rethoric question ran over her cheek, then
